This is a talk I gave at Develop Digital in 2020. It tried to dig into what a layout is silently communicating to a player and how we, as designers, can take control of this conversation to make sure players get the experience we intend.
Here's a dump of Lone Echo 2 artwork I made way back in 2018/19! I came onto the project never designing anything scifi before so it's pretty hard looking at some of the older pieces in here... so many things I would do differently these days. Either way I thought id post up a bit of everything, hopefully you enjoy.
